I once spent $50 for what could have been a $500+ couch. That was probably one of my better grabs when it came to thrifting and was the beginning of my fascination with used furniture. A lot of people get creeped when buying second-hand furniture but I don't think I can ever say no even if I do have to do just a little bit of dusting or scrubbing. Here's a look at my first thrifted couch as described above.
I am in LOVE with this couch but unfortunately my dog has helped himself to the corner. Aside from looking slightly altered everything looks great and looks in great condition.
So one day I was coming home from brunch when I saw a lonely little chair on the side of the road. I slowed down and saw a lady wiping her forehead and walking back into her house... Naturally I said "Ma'am.....are you just going to throw that out". Then that's when she said "I have no room for it, it's all yours. Let me know if you need help lifting it!"
I had a decision to make. This lady seemed too eager to get this off her curb. Could she have:
A. she legit had no room for it
B. she murdered someone on it and hid the body in the back and wanted to get rid of evidence.
"I'll take it", I said.
Turns out the chair was in mere perfect condition. Almost as if she had never sat in it. I'm so glad I grabbed it. After checking retail I would have paid over $200 for this piece and I'd say that's a helluvadeal.
With all this said, I'm thinking about incorporating vintage or thrifted furniture to add to the site. My plan is to find some great furniture and reupholster/revamp/ and make it totally These Odds. Let me know what you think.
